Access to veterinary services in Norway Report by a working group established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Oslo, March 2023
This working group report reviews the status and challenges of access to veterinary services in Norway, with emphasis on services for food-producing animals. It documents shortages of clinical livestock veterinarians, recruitment difficulties especially in sparsely populated areas, and factors such as changing career preferences, declining income base and social trends. The report presents a menu of proposed measures across recruitment, task allocation, on-call organisation, grants, administration and legislation, and assesses feasibility and potential budgetary implications. The aim is to provide decision-makers with a basis for implementing targeted measures to ensure satisfactory veterinary coverage.
