Final report new top level domains of national importance
The report reviews the implications of ICANN's process to expand the number of generic top-level domains (gTLDs) and analyzes the technical, legal and market frameworks. The working group concludes that as of December 2010 there is no clear market need for gTLDs of national importance, but recommends that Norwegian authorities develop a national policy and strategy for processing future applications. The report provides recommendations on selection methods (recommendation: a 'beauty contest'), contractual requirements for registries, proposed amendments to the Domain Regulation, and considerations regarding trademarks, consumer protection and post-delegation issues.
