Study of heritage apple cultivars in Norway
This NIBIO Book reports results from the FRUIT-N-QUALITY project (2018–2021) evaluating 139 Norwegian heritage apple cultivars for pomological, agronomical and biochemical traits. It presents data on flowering and ripening phenology, fruit morphology, yield, sugar and acid composition, polyphenolic profiles, vitamin C and seed kernel compounds, and includes pomological descriptions for previously undocumented local cultivars. The study identifies cultivar groups with desirable properties for fresh consumption, processing and as genetic sources for breeding, to support industry and consumer awareness.
