Non-detriment finding for African elephant (Loxodonta africana) VKM Bulletin 2025:22
This VKM bulletin assesses whether the import to Norway of two tusks from one wild African elephant (Loxodonta africana) taken in Mozambique in 2024 would be detrimental to the species' survival. The report summarises biological information, population trends, threats (notably illegal ivory hunting), international conservation measures and trade status, and reviews Mozambique's quotas and recent ivory seizures. VKM concludes negatively and finds that the proposed import could have a harmful effect on the conservation status of the species.
