The Role of Human Rights in Norwegian Foreign and Development Policy
This report outlines Norway's priorities, initiatives and assessments regarding the integration of human rights into its foreign and development policy. It summarizes developments in international legal instruments, monitoring mechanisms and Norway's multilateral efforts, with examples from 2006–2008 and updates to mid-2009. Priority areas include women’s rights, children’s rights, indigenous peoples, human rights defenders, freedom of expression, labour rights and transitional justice. The report also describes Norway's engagement in UN fora, regional mechanisms and development cooperation to strengthen implementation of human rights.
