The right to speak up and the channels for doing so : A comparative study of Denmark, England, Ireland and Norway Empirical research on the whistleblowing process in Denmark, England, Ireland and Norway

This brief reports findings from an empirical comparative study of workers' freedom to speak publicly and channels for voicing concerns in Denmark, England, Ireland and Norway. Based on survey vignettes and experimental manipulations, it examines perceived scope to speak about working conditions, professional issues, economic priorities and restructuring, and the acceptability of contacting media versus national regulators. Results show cross-country differences, differences between managers and workers, and varying attitudes towards loyalty and the appropriateness of external disclosures. The brief is part of a broader Fafo project funded by the Research Council of Norway.
