Petoro AS (Petoro) was established on 9th May 2001 in accordance with a resolution made by the Storting on 26th April 2001 on the restructuring of the State’s ownership on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). The Storting decided that the commercial aspects of the State’s Direct Financial Interest (SDFI) on the NCS which had previously been managed by Statoil, should, due to Statoil’s impending partial privatisation, be managed by a wholly state-owned company. The overall long term objective for Petoro in managing the SDFI is to create the highest possible economic value from the SDFI portfolio.
