Intense two-week heatwave in Fennoscandia hotter and more likely due to climate change
The July 2025 heatwave in Fennoscandia impacted Norway, Sweden, and Finland due to its unusual intensity and duration, creating challenges for healthcare, social services, and reindeer grazing. Climate change increased its likelihood and intensity, adding 2°C to temperatures, and made similar events ten times more probable. Nighttime temperatures have become around 33 times more likely because of human-induced warming, underscoring the need for adaptation measures. Heatwaves in the region are likely to become more frequent under continued warming.
