The Great Fresco in Villa dei Misteri, Pompeii An interdisciplinary investigation with a psychological emphasis
This investigation focuses on the Great Fresco in Villa dei Misteri and aims to address six identified gaps in existing interpretations, such as limited theoretical perspectives and underdeveloped psychological analysis. Torill Christine Lindstrøm conducted a comprehensive interdisciplinary study, combining elements of psychology, archaeology, history, and religion, among others, to conclude that the fresco most likely represents a Dionysiac cult for women with initiation rituals. While not entirely new, her findings are described as robustly grounded in empirical data and interdisciplinary frameworks.
