Biodiversity in Wet Sedimentation Ponds Constructed for Receiving Road Runoff

Twelve wet sedimentation ponds were sampled over a two year period to analyze biodiversity including benthic invertebrates, zooplankton, amphibians, and macrophytes. Despite high pollution levels, taxa richness was generally high, with significant variation among the ponds. Some recorded species were listed on the Norwegian Red List. The study highlights the positive contribution of sedimentation ponds to freshwater biodiversity despite adverse conditions.
