Charting the upstream: An indicator for imported input goods prices
This Staff Memo presents an indicator used for monitoring and forecasting inflation at Norges Bank. The indicator captures international price impulses impacting the input costs of domestic firms. Analysis suggests that increased costs of imported intermediate goods have contributed to the rise in Norwegian CPI-inflation. The indicator is also useful for forecasting changes in CPI related to earlier stages in production chains.
