Kunnskapsoppsummering
Barn og unges kulturbruk En kunnskapsgjennomgang Nanna Løkka TF-rapport nr 635 2021
The report is a review of up-to-date knowledge on children’s and youth’s cultural and media habits in Norway. Based on former reports and analysis, we have compiled a description of what we know and what we don’t know regarding this topic. Initially we discuss the data and statistics that lays the foundation for the knowledge. In Norway, culture and media is often separated in two different statistical systems. The present interweaving of culture and media, especially among younger people, makes this statistical tradition outdated. At the same time, changing it will complicate future figures of changes and development over time. The study further describes how the cultural habits among children and youth have been very stable, whereas the media habits have changed significantly, and that the habits often, but not always, reflect income and the educational level of the parents. The review reveals that there is much more knowledge about public cultural provision than private activities, and that there are gaps in basic knowledge on children’s and youth’s own understanding of culture, both regarding participation and being audience, when it comes to quality and relevance. The study also uncovers a lack of critical analysis.
