Entrepreneurial returns to college
This paper investigates whether college education causally affects the probability of starting an incorporated business. Using detailed Norwegian administrative data and quasi-random variation from GPA-based admission thresholds, the authors measure program-level entrepreneurial intensity and estimate regression discontinuity effects of enrolling in more entrepreneurially intensive programs. They find that exposure to programs with higher shares of alumni entrepreneurs substantially increases the likelihood of later founding an incorporated firm. The study contributes causal evidence on how traditional higher education environments shape entrepreneurship.
