K12 – Summary report
This report gives a summary of the K12 floating bridge concept developed. Statens vegvesen (SVV) has been commissioned by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications to develop plans for a ferry free coastal highway E39 between Kristiansand and Trondheim. The 1100 km long coastal corridor comprise today 8 ferry connections, most of them wide and deep fjord crossings that will require massive investments and longer spanning structures than previously installed in Norway. Based on the choice of concept evaluation (KVU) E39 Aksdal Bergen, the Ministry of Transport and Communications has decided that E39 shall cross Bjørnafjorden between Reksteren and Os. SVV is finalizing the work on a governmental regional plan with consequence assessment for E39 Stord-Os. This plan recommends a route from Stord to Os, including crossing solution for Bjørnafjorden, and shall be approved by the ministry of Local Government and Modernisation. In this fifth phase of the concept development, only floating bridge alternatives remain under consideration.
