What do we know about the long-term outcomes of food systems interventions? REPORT 3/2023 – DEPARTMENT FOR EVALUATION
This rapid evidence assessment synthesizes impact evaluations to assess whether and how long-term outcomes of food systems and nutrition interventions in low- and middle-income countries are measured. It finds that only 4% of included impact evaluations assess outcomes nine years or more after intervention initiation, with most studies having short follow-up and limited consideration of climate impacts and cost-effectiveness. The report highlights heterogeneity in interventions, concerns about study quality, and identifies contextual facilitators and barriers to sustained outcomes.
