Final report - BIOBANK 2012-2016 Programme on Human Biobanks and Health Data - BIOBANK
The Programme on Human Biobanks and Health data (2012-2016) was established by the Research Council of Norway based on recommendations in the report Gode biobanker – bedre helse (2008). Based on the overall objective, we originally planned open calls for proposals to fund large high quality researcher projects. However, based on the first call open to the whole programme plan, we identified that more strategic work was needed in order to stimulate more dialogue, cooperation and collaboration, to build common large data sets and to build more biostatistic and -informatic expertise to handle the unique Norwegian health data. In total, the outcome of this minor programme was seen as highly valuable to the Norwegian research community, and the funding principle of building common big data sets was noticed and repeated on a larger scale in other European countries.
